Review of Salmon Consultation Processes, Fisheries and Oceans Canada

IDR conducted an independent review of salmon consultation processes in the Pacific Region. There are many stakeholders in the pacific salmon fishery in British Columbia with a variety of sharply contrasting views on how to consult and make decisions with regard to the increasingly scarce resource of the salmon fishery.

Economic and Justice Strategies for Urban Aboriginal Communities, Western Economic Diversification Canada, $175,000, 2003-2006

IDR, in collaboration with Prof. John Borrows, Law Foundation Chair in Aboriginal Justice and Governance, conducted a quantitative and qualitative assessment of economic and justice strategies, including their interrelationships, in urban Aboriginal communities in Canada.


Family Group Conferencing Project, Law Foundation of B.C., $200,000, 2005-2010

The Ministry for Children and Family Development has implemented the use of Family Group Conferencing (FGC) as a new form of conflict resolution process for cases of child neglect, abuse and apprehension.

The role of human rights in peace building


Human Rights and Peace Building Consortium

IDR is currently pursuing an initiative to form a consortium of universities from Canada and South East Asia to share information and to undertake collaborative research and programming in relation to human rights and peace building.


Human Rights and Peace Building Processes in South East Asia

IDR Director Maureen Maloney has conducted workshops for and given papers to government leaders, international agencies, academics, and civil society groups involved in human rights and peace building initiatives in South East Asia and elsewhere, including China and the Middle East.


Trauma and Social Healing after Genocide, AUCC, 2005

The goal of this project was to provide training and consultation to build knowledge, skills and awareness of 'trauma and social healing' in the BiH professional community.
